Uli “Apollo” Lobo

Our 2000 Toyota 4Runner came to us in 2010.  After much research, Erik concluded that this would be the best vehicle for our adventure.  We decided that he needed a name since he was going to be as much a part of the journey as we are.  “Uli” is short for “Ulises,” the Spanish equivalent of “Ulysses,” the great traveler of Homer’s Odyssey and James Joyce’s Ulysses.  “Lobo” is the Spanish word for “wolf,” which is appropriate since he is gray and, as a 4Runner, will be steady on his feet in rough terrains.  “Apollo” is his call sign in the same vein as pilots have call signs or nicknames.  “Apollo” was chosen for a couple of reasons: the Greek god Apollo was the god of light, the sun, music, and the arts, among other things; one of NASA’s greatest programs for space exploration was named Apollo; also, it was the call sign of our favorite character on the updated “Battlestar Galactica” TV series, which Erik was a big fan of.

Hey Guys !!! Nice site. I am from the Kazoo section and want to say the car looks great!!! Actually, too great… swap out those rims for standard steelies and quit washing it !!!

Am anxiously looking forward to your arrival in Costa Rica. I am already seeing some tough scheduling.. work on the sixth, leave on the seventh… who says you have to (as far as the 7th and after)??

Its an adventure !!! The coffee will be on and nature will be right outside the door (sometimes INSIDE the door) whenever you arrive.

Who knew you tooted the kazoo? (Say that fast five times.) Thanks for the tips – I can look nice and shiny in the States, but I may be incognito once I cross the border. If you see a 4Runner with a mustache and a sombrero… it’s not me. Or is it…?

I just had to make a comment so your first three could be from oboe players. Not sure what that means about us. Nice site.
