Tick Tock

We are less than two weeks away from our departure date and everyone wants to know if we are ready.  I guess we’ll find out.

It’s been a productive nine days since moving to Minneapolis.  We made one final trip to Wisconsin to put more things in parental storage, so now we are living with only the items we plan on having for our first two stops.  Granted, the first stop is social and the second is not too far away, but it will give us an idea of how much space is actually being occupied in Uli.  But we’re pretty sure we still have too much.  The 10 days we spend at Joe’s parents’ house will be used to finalize what comes along and what we will need to live without.

In trip related developments, we have received our International Driver’s Licenses, we have secured some more Help Exchanges, and we have enrolled in the U.S. Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), which will enable the State Department to have knowledge of our location as we travel through different countries.

The lovely friend who has taken us into her Uptown house will be leaving soon on a trip.  She has two wonderful dogs that we will have the honor of watching while she is gone.  Since we’ve been living with them for about 10 days, the transition should hopefully go smoothly.  One is a big, goofy and always happy Golden Retriever and the other is a sweet and introverted cattle dog, specific breed unknown since she was rescued.

Our social life has never been so exciting or full.  It’s been wonderful to spend so much time with our friends, but there is a drawback: we are eating and drinking way more than we should.  If you are only bringing a limited supply of clothing along on an extended trip, you really need to be able to fit into that clothing.

Speaking of which (food and drink, natch’), don’t forget to see us at The Independent on Thursday, May 26.  We’ll be there by 5:00 and we’ll stay late into the night.  It’s informal – just stop in and say a quick hello or stay as long as you want.

And don’t forget that you can subscribe to our website so that you can stay on top of all the thrilling developments as they unfold.

OK. I’ve signed the BSO card, gone to two farewell parties, and subscribed to the website. Gee, getting ready for a trip is a lot of work! (Oh, that’s right- I’m not going…)

I am so excited for you! Can’t wait to see you … and if you like big, goofy and always happy Golden Retrievers, then you’ll feel right at home. :-)

It’s nice to see that even amid the rush of your trip preparations you have time to relax with the kids. Trousers with elastic waistbands help with the unwanted side effects of robust socializing but I’m not sure what fashion statement they make. Keep on truckin’ (Uli-in’??).
